The project aimed to impart skill trainings for less privileged young women from Gulbarga taluk of Karnataka state in India. The project is trying to enhance the vocational skills of young women in tailoring and computer skills and make them employable to the job market. The integration of life skills and entrepreneurship trainings along with skill training will enable the women to build confidence and motivation to start self employment units and to be placed in jobs. Motivation and necessary support services are also providing by the project for job placement of or start their self employment units. Project has successfully completed two phases and coming up with the third phase with same objectives.
As of now 200 girls have successfully completed their skill trainings and more than 85% of them were well placed in jobs or initiated their own self employment units.
The training increased the self esteem of the marginalized women and helped them to access decent employment, self-determination and autonomy by acquiring skills, knowledge and most importantly qualifying themselves for the tough tasks.
The project has ensured reduction of poverty, vulnerability among the rural women and increased the scope for skill training.
This alternative education programme coupled with skill development opportunities is providing to the young women/girls who are school dropouts (left the school before completing class X or XI), child labourers, and potential early marriage girls and out of school young girls, a support to ensure the economic stability and to bring back into social mainstream.
Many women opting for skill training in villages could break the traditional mind set and increased the urge for autonomy and better economic freedom.
