On 17th March 2024, CHITHRA Don Bosco organised a celebration of International Women’s Day for the women from its self-help groups (SHGs), local government, and business stakeholders in Chitradurga district. One outstanding women’s SHG and three individual SHG members were felicitated for their achievements on the occasion.
Fr. Steven Lawrence – Director of CHITHRA, explained its initiatives for the empowerment of women. Mrs. Dilshad Unnisa (Panel Advocate, DLSA) inspired the audience with examples of women who made their mark in various fields, reminding them that women have achieved equality in all fields in all ways. Ms Rashmi (Prajapitha Brahma Kumari, Eshwari University) motivated the women to achieve their goals because they have immense power and nothing is impossible for them. Mr. Shivanna (District President- Guarantee scheme) reminded women that the five guarantees from the government were meant for their empowerment, as the empowerment of women is the empowerment of society. Fr. Saji George (Director- Don Bosco Institutions) delivered the presidential speech. Mrs Sudha (VP- DS Halli gram panchayat), Mr K C Nagaraj (entrepreneur) and Mr Paramesh (President- Scouts & Guides) were also present on the occasion. Two women members of the SHG shared their experiences with the group. Cultural performances and a delicious meal wrapped up the celebrations enjoyably for all the women.
