Rehabilitation of Street Children at Don Bosco Yuvakara Grama Ajjanahalli

The project was started in 2005 to provide continued care and education support for vulnerable children. The objective of the project is to help needy and vulnerable youth to reintegrate into society. These are mostly street children and child labourers who have been disassociated from the community. These children come from difficult social circumstances. Many have experienced misuse or violence and have been repudiated by their caregivers and parents.

The project is providing safe home and loving environment for 150 vulnerable children at Don Bosco Ajjanahalli for their education and integral development.

The children receive regular meals and obtain medical care and psychological support. These children have the chance to begin or continue their scholastic education or skill training. They go to nearby schools or the bridge school programme at the centre.

Aiming to provide an integral advancement for the children and allow them a regular childhood, the inmates of the centre are offered a broad set of leisure and cultural activities. This way, former street children and child labourers have the opportunity of social reintegration. Staff at “YuvakaraGrama” tries to mediate between the family and the child in order to permit children to return home if possible.

Alongside education the inmates of the centre are enabled to lead a self determined life. The all-round support through education, health, leisure and social engagement facilitate the development of strong personalities, helping them to make decisions about their future.and training,
