On 9 July 2023, in a collaborative effort, the Karnataka Interstate Migrant Alliance for Transformation (KISMAT) and the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital organised a medical camp for 125 intrastate migrant workers at HBR Layout, Bangalore. The camp was to ensure that migrant workers receive timely healthcare and have access to medical professionals before minor health concerns escalate into more serious conditions.
The event commenced with an informative session conducted by the Medical Officer of the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, focusing on nutrition, health, and the adverse effects of beedis, cigarettes, and pan masalas. After which, the workers, including women and children, underwent a comprehensive health check, comprising assessments for blood pressure, diabetes, pulse rate, vitamin deficiency, fever, cold, and cough. Patients were provided with essential medications and vitamin supplements as required.
The intrastate migrants, who predominantly work as daily casual labourers, drivers, and housekeepers in Bangalore, were the primary beneficiaries of the medical camp. They are originally from villages/towns across Karnataka: Ramasamudra, Kanakanagara, Hadonahalli, Mullapura, Seepura, Hallikeri, Bannihalli, Davanagere, Konchigeri, Haradanahalli, Mailapur, Shiraguppi, Kuthanur, and Thaluru.
The workers expressed their gratitude for the support and services extended by KISMAT, emphasising the newfound awareness and reassurance they gained through the event.
