Don Bosco Hospet organized a Women’s Day rally on 10 March 2016, at Taluk level which was followed by a week’s programmes like awareness in public and community, competitions for women, signature campaign on gender equality. The women gathered on 8th March – International Women’s Day- to prepare a memorandum stating the need of women empowerment, gender equality, revive and awareness on the existing government schemes like women helpline, Santhwana services, Durga Vahini. The memorandum was given to Tasildar at Taluk office, CDPO at Department of women and child development, Inspector at Hospet city police station, Assistant commissioner at Hospet. Every official responded positively to take up the issues in the memorandum and Assistant commissioner has agreed to instruct City Muncipal Council to take it forward.
On 10th March the women’s day rally started with an inaugural speech by Mr. Sannamaranna – President of Alemari Samudaya Sangha, Hospet. More than 1500 women participated in the one and a half hour long rally going around in the city starting from Hospet City Municipal Council and concluded at Don Bosco, Hospet. During the rally Mr. Gundi Ramesh – Secretary, Karnataka Kaligala Sangadane gave a motivational speech and congratulated women for doing a noticeable action towards women empowerment and gender equality. The women’s day programme came to an end with a valedictory function at Don Bosco Hospet. Ms. Nagaveni – Panchayath Councilor, Ms. Sunitha – Assistant CDPO, Shiva Prasad – Regional Manager for Sangamithra, Fr. Lawrence Rayappa –Director, Center for social Action, Fr Siju and Fr. Sebastian were present on the dais. Ten women those who have achieved new heights in life and made remarkable changes in the society were honoured with awards during the function. Ms. Sunitha felicitated the gathering and encouraged the women do take more lead roles in the society and bring gender equality. She assured the assistance and support of Department of Women and Child Development for women empowerment. The women’s day celebration was a grand campaign for gender equality and women empowerment.
