Laying the Foundation of a New Social Work Centre — Don Bosco Veedu, Thiruvananthapuram

“Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success”, this is what we experience at Don Bosco institutions.

On 20 September 2022, the foundation stone of the proposed building of Don Bosco Veedu, Thiruvananthapuram was laid by Fr. Jose Koyickal, Provincial, Salesian Province of Bangalore. Fr. Jiji Kalavanal (Rector, Don Bosco Manacaud), Fr. Saji Elambasseril (Director, Don Bosco Nivas), Fr Rubin Mathew (Executive Director, BREADS), and Salesians from Don Bosco Veedu, and Don Bosco Monvila, were present for the blessing of the foundation.

The proposed building in Manacaud, Thiruvananthapuram, is a collaborative venture of BREADS, Don Bosco Veedu Society, and Don Bosco Jugendhilfe (JuWe), Switzerland. When constructed, the building will be used as a centre for social work and skill training that will create new opportunities for many people.

Fr. Jose Koyickal’s short message during the blessing reminded the gathering, that “…Christ Jesus himself is the chief cornerstone. In Him, the whole building is joined together…” Fr. Provincial thanked the funding agency JuWe, Switzerland, who by their generosity, are making this project possible. Finally, in his prayer, Fr Jose entrusted the construction to the heavenly patronage of Mary, Help of Christians, St. John Bosco, and St. Joseph.
