The project was started in the year 2011 at Kolar Gold Fields, Karnataka state by Don Bosco KGF. The project helped 197 poor children to improve their education and health status through guided study and nutrition programme. The school dropout rate has considerably reduced in the slums and outskirts of Kolar Gold Field.
The project started an evening tuition centre at Don Bosco KGF. The children from standard III to standard X (between the ages 8 to 15) regularly attended this supplementary education programme. These children are from the economically backward slums/Villages of Lourde Nagar, Chamraj Nagar, Muscom and M. Block in KGF Taluk. They do not have the requisite atmosphere and facilities to study in their own houses. So the project offered better opportunities and facilities at the tuition centre for the improvement of their studies.
For ensuring regular attendance in the tuition centres and good health, the project also provides the children with nutritious food every day. The nutritious food included different dried cereals which were fried, made into flour and cooked with water and jiggery.
