International Girl Child Day

Don Bosco Kalaburgi organized the International Girl Child Day on 11th October 2017 in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit at Government Girls Home, Kalaburgi. The day was celebrated under the theme “proud to be a girl”. Ms. Anitha, from CHILDLINE welcomed the gathering. During the introductory speech Ms.Geeta, Coordinator CREAM project, said that, girl children are integral part of the family, her rights should not be discriminated and she has to be provided with good education and it is the priority and responsibility of each one in the society.

Ms. Papamma Habalkar, Assistant Child Development Project Officer, said that the gender discrimination exists in India under various forms and the continuous efforts have been successful in reducing it but not completely. She further added that our society should provide equal opportunities to girls, which in turn adds to the growth and prosperity of the country.

Addressing the gathering, Fr. Saji George, Director of Don Bosco Society Kalaburgi, spoke about child rights.  He emphasized that every girl child must get the right to education, right to live, which strengthens the girl child to be an important person in the society. It is the responsibility of parents, Government officials and civil society to safeguard and uphold the rights of children. The other dignitaries of the programme were-Mr.Shreekanth, Superintendent of Government Girls Home, Kalaburgi , Mr.Bharatesh, Legal cum Probation Officer , Fr.Yesudas, Don Bosco Society  kalaburgi , Ms.Shilpa, Superintendent of State  Home  for Women,  Kalaburgi , Ms.Shobanna Joshi , Ms.Bheemaraya, Superintendent of Government Boys Home Kalaburgi.
