The 68th ‘Vanamahotsava’- the festival of trees was celebrated throughout Karnataka state. Vanamahotsava is an annual tree- planting festival in India. It was started in the year 1950 by Dr.K.M. Munshi, the then Union Minister for agriculture. Vanamahotsava is celebrated from July 1st to July 7th to create awareness on the negative consequence of deforestation thereby save mother earth by reducing pollution and global warming. Chitra Don Bosco was very active in the movement and planted more than 50 trees in Government Higher Primary School, Gallanakatte, J.N. Kote, Chitradurga. It was organized by Fr. Maria Julian, Director, Chitra Don Bosco and Mr.Jayanna, SHG field worker. The tree planting drive was celebrated in the presence of the Head Master, teachers, students, community leaders and women from different Self Help Groups. The children and adults planted seedlings of various species. The children vowed to take care and nurture the plants and will continue to spread the awareness about the disastrous effects of cutting down of trees.
