Drug Rehabilitation Education and Mentoring (DREAM) Kottayam in association with Deepika Children’s League (DCL) organised a leadership training programme named PETS (Personal Empowerment Training for Students) for 30 school children from fifteen schools across the Kottayam district at Don Bosco School Puthupally on 28-30 April 2023. The PETS programme organised by DREAM Kottayam and DCL provided a comprehensive training platform for the students, equipping them with essential life skills, leadership qualities, and a clearer vision of their future. The programme aimed to empower the students to become responsible citizens and contribute positively to society.
The programme was inaugurated by Shri. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan (MLA, Kottayam Assembly constituency) in the presence of Fr. Josh Kanjooparambil sdb (District Director, DREAM Kottayam) and Fr. Devassy Chirakel sdb (Rector, Don Bosco Puthupally). Mr Sojan Sebastian (Deputy Excise Commissioner, Kottayam) delivered the keynote address. Ms. Elizabeth Mariya Paul (Asst Vice President & Branch Head, Federal Bank, Puthupally) and Ms. Ancy Mary John (DCL-National Representative) felicitated the gathering.
The programme included various interactive workshops and sessions to enhance the personal and professional development of the participating students. One of the highlights of the programme was a session on leadership skills, where the students learned about different leadership styles, effective communication, decision-making, and problem-solving techniques. Through interactive exercises and group discussions, the students gained valuable insights into the qualities and characteristics of successful leaders.
As part of the programme, there were sessions dedicated to raising awareness about addiction and its consequences. The students were educated about the harmful effects of substance abuse and the importance of leading a healthy and drug-free lifestyle. These sessions aimed to empower the students with knowledge and understanding to make informed decisions regarding their well-being and to be agents of change in their communities.
In addition to the educational and skill-building aspects, the programme also included cultural programmes where the students showcased their talents and cultural heritage. These performances fostered a sense of unity, pride, and appreciation for diverse cultures among the participants.
