Child Rights Awareness at Ramanagara

Don Bosco Yuvamarg, Ramanagra as a part of Child Rights Education and Action Movement conducted a Child Rights awareness programme at Govt. Higher Primary School, Banagahalli, Chennapatna Taluk, Ramanagara. On inquiry, the staff came to know that there is no child right violation like drop out children, out of school children and child labour etc. reported in and around the school. But lately an incident of a child marriage of a student from the school grabbed the attention of the Don Bosco staff in that direction. Considering the probable re-occurrence of such child rights violation soon a child rights education programme was organised on 23rd August 2016 at the school for 84 children of upper primary school including boys and girls.

Mr. Lokesh, CREAM Social Activist gave awareness on Child Rights – Survival, Protection, Development and Participation with examples from the project experience. Later Mr. Muthuraj, CREAM project coordinator addressed the gathering and motivated the children to voice for child rights with his own real life experiences. He also spoke about social evils like child marriage, child labour, child sexual abuse, children in conflict with law etc. followed by awareness on the child protection mechanisms like POSCO Act, RTE, childline, missing child bureau and in particular the new amended Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act. Ms. Hucchhamma, Anganwadi worker of the area also spoke mainly about the importance of nutritious food for children & about the initiatives taken by the Government for the same. Mrs. Shakunthala, Head Mistress of  Govt. Higher Primary School, Banagahalli actively supported and expressed inclination towards the work of Don Bosco team for the protection of child rights.
