On 25 July 2023, a free medical camp for migrant workers was successfully organised in the bustling area of Thanisandra, Bangalore. The medical camp was a joint initiative between KISMAT and the Seventh Day Adventist Medical Centre, to provide essential healthcare services to underprivileged migrant workers. A dedicated team of professionals, comprising a physician, pharmacist, lab technician, and four nurses, offered a range of medical services to 24 migrants in need.
During the medical camp, the migrant workers underwent a comprehensive physical examination. The team conducted tests for blood pressure, diabetes, pulse rate, vitamin deficiency, fever, cold, and cough. The doctor on site offered free medicines and consultation to address immediate health concerns. Additionally, an informative session was conducted to raise awareness about the adverse effects of tobacco consumption in all its forms.
The migrant workers hail from Uttar Pradesh and are engaged in professions such as painting, polishing, and carpentry work in Bangalore, since the past four to five years. Most of these workers lead challenging lives with limited access to medical facilities and knowledge about their health conditions, making them susceptible to health risks. The camp aimed to bridge this gap to improve their well-being.
The medical camp met with immense appreciation and gratitude from the workers as they were able to access routine health check-ups and medical services at their worksite, eliminating any additional hardships in accessing healthcare.
