Resilience begins with the ability to recognise risks, prepare for challenges and strengthen systems to respond effectively. With this focus, the second round of the Assessing and Managing Risk – Capacity Building for PDOs training programme was held on 16 and 17 September 2026 at Don Bosco Provincial House, Bengaluru. The programme was organised by BREADS, Bangalore, with the support of Misean Cara, and brought together 25 representatives from three other Salesian Provincial Development Offices (PDOs).
Participants represented CAUVERI (Trichy Province), SURABHI (Chennai Province), Bosco Seva Kendra (Hyderabad Province), Don Bosco Development Society (Mumbai Province), and BREADS (Bangalore Province). Building on the learning from the first round, the second training focused on reviewing and strengthening the risk management systems and tools already developed by the PDOs.
The sessions included the review of risk registers and policies, identification of gaps and challenges in risk management, and strengthening risk ownership and leadership engagement. The importance of involving staff and communities in risk reduction strategies was also emphasised. Participants explored advanced risk scenarios relevant to NGOs and Salesian organisations in the Indian context and shared experiences and practical responses.
Another key area was strengthening the capacity of PDO leaders to facilitate internal training and mentoring on risk management among staff and project directors. The programme also provided an opportunity to review and finalise policy frameworks, risk registers and other risk management tools.
Dr. Tom Jose, the principal resource person, facilitated the sessions through a highly participatory approach. Discussions, experience sharing and group reflections enabled participants to identify practical improvements and take decisions for strengthening risk management within their respective organisations.
The two-day programme served as an important follow-up to the first round, helping the participating PDOs move from understanding risk management to strengthening its practical application. The process contributed to building more resilient organisations with greater ownership, preparedness and capacity to manage risks effectively.
