The Thrissur Migrant Help Desk (MHD) of the Kerala Interstate Migrants Alliance for Transformation (KISMAT) in collaboration with the Excise Department, organised an exciting football tournament among the migrants at Thiroor, Thrissur on 1 January 2023.
The MHD team used the cricket tournament to spread awareness about drug abuse among the migrants. Four teams from different areas of the village competed for the prize, cheered on enthusiastically by their supporters on all sides, making for a truly lively spectacle. Refreshments and prizes were also distributed. The migrants have now taken the initiative to buy sports materials and show deep interest in practicing and playing matches, thus reducing the desire to use substances.
A street play was also organised by the staff and the KISMAT villagers to bring awareness among the migrant workers by making them understand the adverse effects of substance use.
