Child Rights Awareness to SDMC Members Ramangara District

The days that we spend fruitfully that too for the welfare of the children under our care gives a heart full of satisfaction. This was the unanimous feeling that was aired at the end of the day by the 60 and above participants who are either SDMC presidents, vice presidents or members from Ramanagara, Magadi, Chennapatna and Kanakapura taluks and the invited guests who took part in the training on Child Rights Awareness on July 24, 2105 at Kandaya Bhavan in Ramanagara.

The programme came to a start at around 11.00 am with a prayer song. Introducing the day and giving the concept note Fr. Sony, and the Director of Don Bosco Yuva Marg, Ramanagara, invited the participants to come and see the day- and-night centers that effectively serve the children under the care. He also enumerated the story of a young boy who lost his life due to a misunderstanding and exhorted every participant to be alert to the needs of every child. Mrs. Renuka S, the District Child Protection Officer in charge thanked Don Bosco Yuva Marg for having always taken very proactive steps on behalf of children and very specifically made it known to the participants that for the last six month all together 11 child marriages have been stopped in Chennapatana Taluk alone.

Talking elaborately and explaining about the Child Welfare Committee and its functions Mr. Shivalingaya was all in praise for Don Bosco who is an international organisation that caters to the welfare of children especially those most in need of care and protection and it is worth taking the trouble to go to the forest area and witness the service. There were also great personal like Chennagiri Gowdru, who is the SDMC Forum Taluk President and Mr. Gopal who is the District president of the SDMC Forum who exhorted everyone to send all the children to the local Government schools and be proud to have been educated by the Government school teachers as all of us who are on the dais are educated in the government schools only, Mr. Sreenivas, the president of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike also was present to add colour to the occasion.

The interactive sessions on Child Rights and its implications, Child marriage, Child Labour, School dropout issues and the latest Pocso act etc. kept the participants really enthused to learn more and to go back to be at the service of the children in their villages. All had sumptuous lunch and departed after having taken a group photo for memory.
