Karnataka’s First Corona Care Unit for Tribals at BR Hills

The First Covid Care Centre (CCC) in Karnataka for Tribals has been set up in a tribal school in the thick forest best of BR Hills. To ensure that the tribals too get the treatment, this first-of-a-kind care unit was inaugurated by Corona Care Bengaluru, a consortium of 6 NGOs, along with the support of Karmodaya and Caritas. This CCC has been set up at Jeerigaegedde tribal area of Chamrajnagar District in Karnataka, catering to 25 tribal colonies, with around 4000 people living. The centre is equipped with oxygen concentrators, medical aids, and equipment required for the treatment of Covid Patients.
Tribals are an indigenous group of people who live in the remotest parts of the forest- health care is still a pricey affair, and they are hesitant to quarantine in centres far away from their habitat. Hence the opening of the CCC exclusively for them at the periphery of their forest boundary comes as a timely help as they would not have to travel to towns to receive medical attention and treatment. Asha Karyakartas serving the tribal colonies and hamlets were presented with Covid medical kits and were briefed about using them.
