Theeradesha Lahari Virudha Vanitha Samiti (TLVVS) is a committee formed as an innovative and prudent strategical initiative to thwart the increasing menace of drug abuse and alcohol in the coastal regions especially among the fishermen community of Kollam. The committed interventions for the marginalised and women by the Fishermen Community Development Programme (FCDP) and Theeradesha Mahila Society (TMS) is well-known in the Kollam district of Kerala. Not surprisingly, FCDP and TMS have evolved a new taskforce group in the coastal regions of Kollam to prevent, control and protect women from the evil effects of drugs and alcohol. The committee not only works to create awareness against this malady that is eating into the very innards of society but also through the watchfulness of its 100 trained women volunteers, works to stop public drinking and trafficking of drugs which otherwise happen openly on the beach. The committee is active from morning till night in the local region to watch and prevent gambling, illegal use of drugs, alcohol and other substances, and violence against women as the end result of these activities.
