The joint efforts of Don Bosco Kollam and Fishermen Community Development Programme (FCDP) have created a huge impression and ripples among the coastal community in the past. The visionary work continues through the empowerment of women and youth in the fisher folk community through education, health and livelihood promotion in the coastal district of Kollam. On August 10 2019, Don Bosco Kollam in collaboration with FCDP and Coastal Women Committee for Liquor and drug Prevention organised a women empowerment rally and public meeting.
Aimed at curbing the growing use of alcohol and drug abuse on the coastal areas, especially in the areas from Thangassery to Thanny, the rally awakened the community on the escalating issue. The rally was flagged off by Smt. Vijaya Francis – Honourable Deputy Mayor, Kollam Corporation with the participation of more than 500 coastal women. The public meeting was inaugurated by Mr. T. Tajuddeen Kutty – Kollam Assistant Excise Commissioner in the presence of Mgr. Vincent Machado – Vicar General of Kollam Diocese, Smt. Vinitha Vincent -Pallothottam Councillor, Fr. Joby Sebastian – F.C.D.P – T.M.S Director and Fr. Sunny Uppen – Parish Priest, Thoppe.
