YaR Day at Don Bosco Child Labour Mission, Davangere

Don Bosco Child Labour Mission, Davangere celebrated Youth at Risk (YaR) Day with the theme ‘caring for the earth, our common home’ on 23rd November 2017. More than 300 children from the vicinity gathered at Government Higher Primary School, Arasikare, Harappanahalli taluk, Davangere with the invited dignitaries for a meaningful celebration. The celebration was hosted in Arasikare precisely because of the presence of many seed companies and a high rate of child labourers. The chief guest of the programme was Ms. Sushilamma, Member, Zilla panchayath, Arasikare. Other guests on the stage included Mr. K Kothandarama, Vice Director, Education Department, Davangere, Fr. Cyril Sagayaraj, Rector, DBCLM, Davangere. The programme started with a prayer dance by Children. On the occasion Champion of Child Rights award was presented to Mr. N. Kotresh, former member of the Taluk Panchayth, Arasikare, Mr. Lingesh DS, Block Resource Coordinator Harapanahalli, Davengere, Mr Arjun Parasappa, Head Master, Government School, Arasikare and Mr. Shivaramappa, President, SDMC, Higher Primary School, Kosavanahalli for their contribution in the field of child labour eradication and upholding the rights of children. Mr. Manjunath B, the key note speaker and Fr. Cyril, stressed on the need of protecting children from child labour, child marriage and other social evils. The participants pledged to fight against the social evils and discriminations.  The whole programme served well its purpose of creating awareness about child rights and child rights violations.
