On 6 August 2023, a significant event titled “Consultation on Unorganised and Migrant Workers in Karnataka” was successfully conducted by KISMAT (Karnataka Interstate Migrants Alliance for Transformation). The event aimed to address the concerns of unorganised and migrant workers in Karnataka and foster collaboration among stakeholders. The event drew the participation of 20 representatives from various government and non-government sectors. The DB BEST Academy, serving as the skill training centre of BREADS in Karnataka, served as the fitting backdrop for this important discourse.
The core objective of the consultation was to provide a platform for networking and collaboration among diverse entities involved in the well-being of migrants and unorganised workers. KISMAT sought to establish partnerships with NGOs, trade unions, and government departments that are actively engaged in delivering services to these marginalized segments of the society in Karnataka.

Fr. George PS, in his welcome address, extended warm greetings to all participants and set the stage for meaningful discussions. Fr. Deepu Mathew took the floor to present KISMAT’s comprehensive outreach data and activities in Karnataka, providing an informative backdrop to the discussions that followed. This paved the way for participants to share their insights, experiences, and concerns, fostering a collaborative and inclusive atmosphere.
A pivotal segment of the event was a session led by Fr. Francis Bosco SDB, focusing on the “Possibilities of Networking.” This session delved into the significance of establishing robust networks with partners from diverse sectors. The session also highlighted key advocacy strategies that can amplify the impact of collective efforts to uplift migrants and unorganised workers.
The event concluded with a spirited discussion round, where participants explored effective methods to develop a dynamic network and meaningful relationships with diverse stakeholders. These discussions aimed to lay the groundwork for empowering migrants across Karnataka.
The event culminated with heartfelt appreciation extended to all guests and participants for their active engagement, dedication, and commitment to the cause. Their valuable contributions and collaboration were acknowledged as pivotal to the resounding success of the event.
