The Karnataka Interstate Migrant Alliance for Transformation (KISMAT), a project of BREADS, organised a medical camp for migrant workers on 27 January 2023 at K. Narayanapura and BDS Nagar, Bangalore. The camp reached out to migrants from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Telangana, and the districts of north Karnataka, who work as casual labourers, drivers, carpenters, and painters in the city of Bangalore. Around 66 migrant workers, including women and children benefitted from the medical camp.
The medical camp was conducted in association with the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at K. Narayanapura. The Medical Officer of the PHC conducted a session on nutrition and health for the workers and also informed them about the medical facilities available in the Primary Health Center. General checkups were done for the participants, including blood pressure and diabetes tests, checks for vitamin deficiencies, fever, cold, and cough. The patients were provided with vitamin and electrolyte supplements, and basic medications for their ailments.
The purpose of this medical camp was to ensure that the migrants received access to required healthcare before their health conditions turned serious. All the workers shared their happiness as they became aware of the health facilities accessible to them, as well as the support and services of KISMAT.
