District Commissioner promises to strengthen Children’s gram sabhas in Davangere District

Deputy Commissioner S. T. Anjankumar promised to strengthen children gram sabhas in the district with the help of officers which will help providing solutions to several problems of children at gram panchayat level.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Children’s Day organised by the Department of Public Instruction, Labour Department and Don Bosco Child Labour Mission held at Government Urdu High School at SS Mallikarjun Nagar in Davangere on 20th November 2104. In his key note address, he said that social problems such as child marriage, child labour and atrocities against children and child protection can be dealt at gram panchayat level. Mr Anjankumar expressed displeasure on the increase of violence against children, rape, sexual harassment and inequality even at this modern age.

The DC felt that it could be difficult for the government alone to bring reforms, to stop rape and atrocities against children and women through law. In this regard, proper awareness among people and their co-operation is a must, he said. Mr Anjankumar assured of taking stern against the people who violate children protection rights. People should co-operate in eradication of child labour and in providing education to all children so as to bring them to the mainstream of the society.
During the function, the government officials, guests and children swore an oath to protect the rights of children. The children also presented a memorandum again to stop child marriage and child labour. It was an occasion to publish childline materials on child protection and child rights.
