The Government of Kerala has been taking several precautions and measures during the outbreak of COVID 19 to ensure that people stay safe at home and that their needs are met through essential service providers. The Government of Kerala proposed a community kitchen programme in collaboration with several governmental and non-governmental organisations to ensure that the poor, vulnerable and the migrants in the state do not suffer hunger or neglect due to non-availability of jobs and income. In response to Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan- the Chief Minister of Kerala, several organisations plunged into action immediately. BREADS’ partner, Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan, Kochi was one of them.
In collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ernakulam, Justice Brigade of High Court, CHILDLINE Kochi, and the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan started a community kitchen on 26 March 2020 to provide food to the poor and migrant labourers amid the imposed lock-down. Over 500 food packets are being distributed daily among needy persons and migrants in Ernakulam district, together with sanitisers and masks.
