During the COVID-19 pandemic Don Bosco Devadurga is reaching out to the families affected by COVID-19, by distributing ration kits in Raichur district of Karnataka. DB Devadurga conducted a need assessment survey with the help of Anganwadi staff, Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA), Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs), volunteers and staff of DB Devadurga to identify the families severely affected by COVID-19. The survey was conducted in 50 villages and 4 slum areas in Devadurga, Raichur and Lingsugur taluks of Raichur district, identifying around 500 families who require immediate help with ration kits. The need assessment found out that some people, especially in villages, had sufficient rice but needed other items. Accordingly, the ration kits for them contained dal, sugar, oil, chilli powder and masks. In urban areas, for people did not have access to free ration from the PDS or their own crops, the ration kits included rice as well. Along with the distribution of ration kits, DB Devadurga also provides awareness on COVID-19 prevention to villagers, panchayati officials, ASHA and Anganwadi workers. The distribution activities are carried out under the leadership of Fr. Kuriakose Puthenpurayil SDB, Rector, DB Devadurga along with the staff members of DB Devadurga.
