The Drug Rehabilitation Education and Mentoring (DREAM) programme, a BREADS initiative, conducted a three-day volunteer training on ‘Addiction Counselling and Psychotherapies’ from 24 – 26 November 2022 at Don Bosco Sadan (Rehabilitation Centre for Boys), Monvila, Thiruvananthapuram. The programme was inaugurated by Fr. M K George (Rector, Don Bosco Monvila) in the presence of the DREAM staff and volunteers.
During the training, around 30 volunteers worked on case formulation, life skills training, psychotherapies, and Group Therapy for Addiction treatment. The training sessions were led by Fr. Binu Scaria SDB (State Director, DREAM), Ms. Harsha Thampi (Counsellor and De-addiction In-charge, Don Bosco Sadan), Ms. Krishnendu B.S (Expressive Art Therapy Practitioner and Social Worker), Mr. Sigi Antony (Vice Principal, TRADA Institute of Social Sciences, Manganam) and the DREAM staff.
The DREAM programme facilitates the high-level involvement of volunteers, mainly students doing their Masters in Social Work or Psychology across Kerala. Their services are enlisted through the DREAM interventions in various districts, to impart counselling and psychological support to school students, who are in distress, victims of abuse, from dysfunctional families, slow learners, or those with behavioural issues, as these children are more vulnerable to addictions.
