Every Sapling Planted Today Is A Promise To The Future

In observation of World Environment Day 2026, BREADS Bangalore, together with its Don Bosco partners in Hospete, Davanagere, and Chitradurga, organised environmental awareness programmes along the global theme, Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future. The celebrations were organised by  the Educate to Cultivate Organically (ECO clubs) initiative, which encourages children to become environmentally responsible citizens through hands-on learning in their school gardens using methods of organic farming, waste management and recycling to promote sustainable living.

In the Kondanayakanahalli Government Higher Primary School (GHPS), in Hosapete taluk, Don Bosco Hosapete focused on environmental conservation, sustainable agriculture, organic farming, and climate responsibility. A total of 350 students and teaching staff in the district were encouraged to plant and nurture trees and understand their role in protecting the environment for future generations. The awareness included children’s mental well-being and the importance of developing environmentally conscious habits from a young age.

In Davanagere, 220 students and 18 teachers of Sarathi Government High School, in Harihar taluk took out an awareness rally through the village, with placards and slogans promoting environmental protection. This was followed by a plantation drive, awareness sessions on reducing plastic usage, promotion of kitchen gardens, organic manure, and an environmental protection pledge. By also participating in the rally, the local community encouraged the children in spreading the message of environmental stewardship.

World Environment Day programme in Malappanahatti GHPS, Chitradurga included environmental awareness and sapling plantation, also incorporating child development and mental health promotion. Chessboards were distributed to students to encourage constructive learning and critical thinking. A mental health awareness session for students and parents focused on emotional well-being, stress management, healthy lifestyle practices, and mobile phone addiction. The programme brought together 130 students, teachers, parents, School Development & Monitoring Committee members, and local government representatives.

In a separate initiative, the BREADS Mobile Clinic team organised World Environment Day at the Basava Tirtha Vidya Peetha College, in Halli Khed (B), Bidar. A rally with inspiring slogans to plant forests and save the country, celebrated Nature as our home, reminding all that if the environment is destroyed, humanity is also destroyed. More than 150 youngsters were educated about their responsibility to maintain the environment around their houses.

The World Environment Day programmes, with more than 850 children actively participating in various schools, renewed the momentum of the ECO Clubs initiative, reinforcing the message that protecting nature is a shared responsibility, essential for building a sustainable future. By creating opportunities to do, the children are inspired to become champions of environmental conservation.
