Don Bosco College, Angadikadavu, has been awarded Kerala State Renewable Energy Commendation Certificate 2017 in the category of Educational Institutions. Mr. M.M. Mani, Minister for Electricity, Govt. of Kerala, gave away the certificate in the presence of Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, at Kanakakkunnu Palace Auditorium, Thiruvananthapuram, on 28 February 2018. Fr K.O. Thomas, Rector and Manager, received the certificate on behalf of the college.
The award constituted by the Government of Kerala has been given by Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT), Govt. of Kerala, to promote excellence in various areas of new and renewable energy technologies in the State. The Award is to recognize the selected enterprises, organizations and individuals who have made systematic and serious attempts for efficient utilization of renewable energy and research & promotion of renewable energy technologies. The qualifying period for the Renewable Energy Award was from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017. The applicants presented their solar power unit before the State Level Monitoring Committee for Renewable Energy Awards in Kerala that finalized the winners.
Don Bosco Arts and Science College, Angadikadavu, was awarded for the 30 KW on-grid solar power unit commissioned on 14 March 2017. The plant has run for 3748 hours and produced 36537 units of electricity to date. It has been set up with the help of subsidy from Central and State Governments and executed by Tata Power Solar. Besides the monetary gain, the power unit is a contribution to the society that faces power shortage and an inspiration to the college community and the neighbourhood to pursue sources of renewable energy.
