On 12 June 2026, the Yadgir district administration commemorated World Day Against Child Labour with a huge awareness rally that culminated in a multisectoral programme. The programme was jointly conducted by the District Legal Services Authority, District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Departments of Labour, Public Education, Women and Child Development, Police, and local non-governmental organisations in Yadgir.
The rally that started out from the Tahsildar Office to the Government Degree College, saw the participation of around 300 schoolchildren, 100 Anganwadi workers, 50 Government school teachers, 20 government officers and around 70 government staff. The participants carried placards and used slogans to spread awareness against child labour among the local population.
In the programme that followed, district officials reiterated the need for child rights and child protection, the prevention and elimination of child labour, the importance of education, publicised government schemes and legal provisions for children, and advocated community responsibility in protecting children to create child labour free communities.
There was a special moment for Don Bosco Centre for Social Action (DBCSA), Yadgir, when it was honoured for its outstanding contribution towards child welfare, child rights promotion and community development in the district. DBCSA was recognised as the Best NGO and Fr. Shabu Francis, Director of DBCSA, was honoured as the Best NGO Person.
The event served as an important platform to raise awareness about child rights, the harmful effects of child labour and the collective responsibility of society to ensure a safe, healthy and dignified future for every child. The twin recognitions bestowed upon DBCSA and Fr. Shabu Francis are testament to Don Bosco’s continued commitment to child protection, social justice and the holistic development of vulnerable communities in Yadgir district.
