The Don Bosco Child Labour Mission (DBCLM), Davanagere organised a lively sports programme on 29 November 2025 for the children from the centre and neighbouring low-income communities. Supported by BREADS Bangalore, the event aimed to promote physical wellbeing, teamwork and confidence among vulnerable children who often have limited access to structured recreation, essentially using sports for change.
The day began at 12:30 pm with 68 children gathering eagerly on the grounds, ready to participate in a variety of activities planned by the DBCLM team. Children were grouped into senior, junior and sub-junior categories and took part in the running races before sitting down to a nutritious lunch after which, the games continued with great enthusiasm. A range of fun and skill-based events were organised, including the 50-metre race, lemon and spoon race, dumbbell race, sack race, shotput, skipping race and frog race. The laughter and cheers from the children filled the playground, creating a warm and spirited atmosphere. Adding to the excitement, the staff members also joined in for a friendly shotput event, much to the delight of the children.
Medals and certificates were awarded to the winners of each category, acknowledging their effort and encouraging them to continue exploring their talents. The programme concluded with the distribution of snacks, leaving the children with happy memories and a sense of accomplishment.
The day reinforced the importance of sports in nurturing discipline, cooperation and emotional wellbeing. Through such initiatives, DBCLM and BREADS continue to create safe, supportive spaces for children to build confidence and experience positive childhood moments.
