Humanitarian Support for 350 Flood-Affected Families in Yadgiri

On 6 November 2025, Don Bosco Social Service Centre, Yadgiri, with the support of BREADS Bangalore, distributed essential food grains and household kits to 350 flood-affected families in Shivanur village in Wadagera taluk. The homes and livelihoods of these families had been severely damaged by the overflow of the Bhima river in September-October.

The floods had inundated several villages including Arjunagi, Budihal, Shivanur and Naikal, forcing many families to seek temporary shelter in relief camps. During this period of distress, Don Bosco staff and volunteers visited the affected villages, met with the families and carefully assessed their needs. Following this assessment, relief kits worth approximately ₹4000 were prepared and distributed to each family. Each kit included essential food items such as rice, wheat flour, oil, salt, sugar as well as other necessities such as soap, detergents, and other items.

This humanitarian response reflects the Don Bosco commitment to serving vulnerable communities in times of crisis: BREADS’ role in coordinating aid as the Province Development Organisation (PDO), and DB Yadgiri’s role in reaching out to the affected people.  The timely support helped restore a sense of dignity and hope among the families who had lost much during the floods. Many beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that this was the first substantial assistance they had received since the disaster.

The programme was executed by the dedicated staff and volunteers of Don Bosco Social Service Centre in collaboration with local authorities, including the Executive Officer of Wadagera taluk. Together, they demonstrated solidarity with communities in need, promoting compassion, resilience and social responsibility in action.
