The Sports for Change initiative was officially launched at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Mannuthy in Thrissur on 10 August 2025, with the vision of harnessing the power of sports as a catalyst for social transformation, and a proactive measure against substance abuse among young people. This initiative is led by the Don Bosco institutions in Thrissur district, with strategic support from BREADS.
The Kerala Revenue Minister, Shri K. Rajan graciously launched the initiative, emphasising in his speech, the crucial role of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, and resilience in youth, while also serving as an effective tool for community building.

As part of the initiative, five sports hubs dedicated to football and basketball training have been established across Thrissur district by the Don Bosco institutions, with BREADS providing overall coordination, capacity building and resource facilitation. These hubs aim to provide structured, inclusive and engaging sports programmes that mobilise youth, encourage positive social interaction and steer them away from the dangers of drug abuse.
The launch of Sports for Change in Thrissur reflects BREADS’ ongoing commitment to empowering young people through holistic interventions that combine education, life skills and sports, enabling them to build healthier, more purposeful lives.
