The summer camp for the various tuition center students from the fifteen villages was held at Don Bosco Yuvakara Grama, Ajjanahalli from 27th of April 2018 to 29th of April 2018. The children arrived in two different shifts accompanied by the CREAM project staff and the tuition teachers. After an icebreaking session the children were divided into six teams and were given an animator each. They came together and held a meeting to appoint a suitable name and leader for their respective teams. The team names were as follows Navilu (Peacocks), Kuvempu, Prakruti (Nature), Saarathi (Charioteer), Dharani (Earth) and Nakshatra (Stars). At the very beginning of the camp the aims and objectives of the camp was explained to the children. The sessions for the camp included the topics on child rights, human rights, child marriage, child labour, departments related to children, games, cultural fest, yoga, meditation, mega quiz, party songs, action songs, trekking and treasure hunt.
During the camp the children gathered together with lighted candles and placards for a solidarity campaign seeking justice for Asifa. It was one of the heart touching moments of the summer the camp. The children stood in silence expressing their solidarity. The children were also part of the awareness campaign- ‘me and my vote are not for sale’. The children in two lines marched to Ajjanahalli village and made the efforts to conscientize the people not to sell their votes for monetary benefits and motivated the elders to elect the best candidates.
The camp ended with a solemn concluding ceremony wherein students staged spectacular programmes. The winners and groups were given the prizes.
