Moulding resilient youth for a brighter tomorrow

The Don Bosco Youth Forum under the aegis of the Fishermen Community Development Programme was officially inaugurated at a function in FCDP Hall, Kollam. The Don Bosco Youth Forum consists of youth between 18-35 years residing between Thangassery to Thanni in the coastal belt of Kollam. Over 70 youth delegates participated in the programme. The DB Youth Forum is an innovative intervention initiated under the Empowerment of women and youth in the fisher folk community through education, health and livelihood promotion in the coastal district of Kollam project.

The main objective of the Don Bosco Youth Forum is to nurture the skills of youngsters in the coastal area and to empower their personal and social development. Jithin Joseph-Deacon, led the youth in various activities and group discussions. Sri. Devarajan, Circle Inspector, Pallihottam, spoke of youth initiatives as a need of the hour. Shri Samson Mathew- Secretary, YMCA Kollam and Shri George Mathews- Treasurer, YMCA assured them of YMCA’s support for all the activities of the Don Bosco Youth Forum. Outlining the plans of Don Bosco Youth Forum, Rev. Fr. Joby Sebastian said that the youth under the banner of Don Bosco must emerge as the soul and voice of the coastal region. Dr. Sindha Mendez emphasized that youth ought to be the leaven in society. Present at the function was also Sr. Cecily Paul, Assistant Director, T. M. S.
