25th January 2021 marked the official inauguration of 6 Income Generation Programmes (IGPs) initiated by women SHGs in Alappuzha, Kerala. The event was chaired by Smt. Soumya Raj, Alappuzha Municipal Chairperson along with other dignitaries including Fr Xavier Kudianssery, Ex-Director – ADC & SWS, In-charge of Radio Neythal 90.8 FM Alappuzha; Smt. Jessy Benedict, Mangalam Ward Councillor, and Fr. Joy Nedumparambil SDB, Executive Director – BREADS.
They addressed 70 participants on social affairs concerning women communities of Kerala and the possibilities of various women-oriented roles in society. Discussion on the enormous scope for holistic development through the WELivE project, especially in the pandemic-hit environment was also focused on.
Not only providing a platform to inaugurate their newly formed IGPs, but WELivE Alappuzha also assisted the women SHGs to set up their exclusive counters in the same venue where the inaugural ceremony was held, with their enterprise’s name being publicised.
The six WELivE-approved IGPs are- Maria Poultry (poultry farm), Maria Garments (freelance garment business), Achus Foods (snacks and confectionary production unit)
Roohas Kitchen (seafood restaurant supported by the Dept. of Fisheries-Kerala), SRS Mushroom Pickles (mushroom pickle-making unit), Pratheeksha Homely Foods (homemade foods takeaway unit).
