World Human Rights Day was observed on 11 December 2025 at the Government Higher Primary School Kanekal, Yadagiri with a programme for children and parents organised by Don Bosco Social Service Centre supported by BREADS Bengaluru, the Mobile Clinic team and the Department of School Education and Literacy.
This programme under the Mental health Initiative for Nurturing Development and Support (MINDS) programme brought together 109 children from classes 8 and 9 along with teachers, parents and community representatives. Sessions focused on children’s rights related to education, health, protection and overall development. Special attention was given to help parents understand their responsibilities in supporting their children’s emotional wellbeing and healthy growth. The MINDS programme modules were used to explain children’s psychological development in a simple and relatable manner, enabling children to better understand their emotions, behaviour and learning processes.
A local awareness rally highlighted the importance of human rights and children’s rights in everyday life. This was followed by interactive sessions that connected rights with health, hygiene and mental wellbeing. Along with the awareness activities, the Mobile Clinic team provided health check-ups and basic treatment for children and parents. Many parents shared that this service was especially helpful, as it reduced the need to travel long distances for routine medical care.
The programme had a positive impact on both children and parents. Children showed improved understanding of their rights and the importance of personal health and hygiene. Parents reflected on their role in creating a supportive home environment and ensuring their children’s education and wellbeing. Teachers noted that such programmes help children become more confident, attentive and emotionally balanced.
By combining rights education with health services, the initiative created a meaningful learning experience and also reinforced the message that every person has the right to essential care, protection and opportunities to live with dignity.
