Training for Women on Gender Equality at Don Bosco Hospet

Don Bosco Hospet organized two days training for women on Gender equality and women empowerment on 29th and 30th of June 2016. 36 women from different villages took part in the training as a result of the awareness programmes conducted in these areas. Ms. Yashswini, Director special child care center, Hospet was the resource person for the training. She has 25 years of experience in the field of children and training women on gender equality and women empowerment. Ms. Yashswini concentrated more on the daily life incidence of discrimination and gender inequality that women face. Gender sensitization was the first session; activities were conducted to bring out the participants experiences on gender discrimination. Women being mothers sometimes instilling gender discrimination in children with restricting opportunity of daughters to sons. Sr. Seema took session on the difference between sex & gender, and the related misconception that people have about the same. On the second day Ms. Savithri, SHG programme coocdinator, spoke about the strategic gender needs and practical gender needs. This was followed by a session explaining about the government schemes and facilities provided for women. The laws and legislation to support women were also explained to the participants. Role play, group discussions, screening documentaries were the few methods used during the training for imparting the idea of gender equality and women empowerment. The programme ended with a vote of thanks from the participants for organizing training for them.
