Definitely, water is essential and the elixir of life. Bengaluru is currently facing a huge water scarcity because of the improper use of water and poor management of lakes in the city. Over the years, the use of ground water has become alarmingly high. The lack of rains according to the seasons and the pollution of the existing lakes in the city with solid and liquid wastes are additional reasons for the water crisis. The way out of this chaotic situation is to awaken the consciousness of the public about the dire consequences of these behaviours, to reduce wastage of water, and conserve water bodies in the city.
In this context, Child Rights Education and Action Movement (CREAM) – a project of BREADS, BOSCO and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) joined hands to spread awareness on “Save Water, Save Environment”. This is an initiative of the BBMP to spread the message in all its schools to save energy, save food and shun plastic. The members of child rights clubs at Sri Siddalingeshwara School, Magadi Road; and BBMP School, Chamrajpet joined the drive with street plays, slogans, and placards, creating awareness around J.J.R. Nagar, Rayapuram, Magadi Road, Chamrajpet and the surrounding areas.
Around 60 members of the following CRCs participated in the campaign: Pratibimba, Blue Star, Subhash Chandra Bose and Sunflower. The campaign was inaugurated by Ms. Kokila Chandra Shekhar, Counsellor, Ward 140, Chamrajpet and Ms. Sasikala, Counsellor, Ward 137. Fr. Regi Jacob SDB, Project Director CREAM, along with the CREAM staff facilitated the advocacy campaign. Teachers and students of St. Peter and St. Paul School, Kinto Convent, GUHPS, Padarayanapura; BBMPHS, J.J.R.Nagar; BBMP School, Chamrajpet; and Sri Siddalingeshwara School, Magadi Road participated in the rally.
