The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) and BREADS Bangalore organized a state level consultation with NGOs on child rights issues on 13th January 2015 at SCM Centre at Bangalore. Mr. ShivarajGowda, Member, KSCPCR welcomed the gathering while Mr. H.R. UmeshAradhya, Chair Person, KSCPCR inaugurated the workshop. Fr. Joy Nedumparambil SDB, the Executive Director of BREADS Bangalore addressed the gathering and thanked the Commission for supporting the NGOs working for the rights of children.
The one day consultation was convened to discuss the various issues related to child rights and listen to the suggestions from the NGOs working for children. More than hundred NGOs from all the districts of Karnataka participated in the consultation. The major themes chosen for the consultation were the following:
1.Functioning of Child Protection Mechanism in the State and challenges
2.Child sexual abuse cases & POCSO implementation
3.RTE and related issues
4.Social Welfare Hostels and Rehabilitation homes run by both Govt. and private agencies
5.Child labour
6.Child marriage
7.Child Trafficking & Missing child.
8.Early Childhood Care and Development and functioning of ICDS
The consolidated report will be studied by the Commission for further follow and action.
