CHITHRA Don Bosco conducted an awareness programme for the Anganwadi teachers and staff at Meghalahalli Gram Panchayat of Chitradurga taluk on 11 January 2021. The awareness programme was organised under the Women Empowerment through Collective Action and Networks (WECAN) project with 50 participants from four different Anganwadi centers of Meghalahalli Gram Panchayat. The programme was chaired by Ms. Dilshad Unnisa, Penal Advocate cum senior member of the District Legal Services Authority in the presence of Fr. Sonychen Mathew, Director, CHITHRA Don Bosco; Ms. Bharathi, Coordinator, WECAN, Ms. Mamatha, Anganwadi teacher, Meghalahalli and Ms. Manjula, Anganwadi supervisor.
Fr. Sonychen appealed to the participants to make concerted efforts in availing the facilities offered by the various departments. Ms. Dilshad covered topics of domestic violence, women police stations, Bhaghyalaxmi scheme for women, loans available in different banks for women folk, widow pensions and senior citizen cards for the elderly. The awareness programme also covered in detail, the legal protection for women from violence. The programme was intended to orient the village folk and to ensure that knowledge on laws for the protection of women from violence and women empowerment reaches as far as possible in the villages. The awareness propagation in the villages was possible due to the strong support and collaboration from Ms. Sudha, Child Development Protection Officer, Chitradurga taluk. At the end of the session the participants clarified doubts and details regarding the protection of women.
