SKILL TRAINING

Don Bosco institutions have developed a strong reputation across the world for their technical trainings for the young at risk, in which the environment is particularly conducive for them to learn and persevere in overcoming their life circumstances. Young people can choose long- and short-term trainings in a variety of domains.

A very important component of the training, is the preparation of students for the workplace through grooming, presentation, and communication skills, besides other life skills that not only promote their employability but also their ability to make a better life for themselves. They are also encouraged to complete basic academic certifications that create foundations for further growth. Personalised attention and support help the youngsters overcome their various challenges to gain skills and confidence to step out into the adult world with better chances of success.

The trainees are fully assisted to either find employment or to become self-employed after the courses. The Don Bosco Job Placement Network plays an important role in linking employers, employment and unemployed youth with each other, through career guidance, job fairs and job placement services. This education pathway equips youngsters to become independent more quickly in life and also contribute to their families, if possible.

BREADS supports a variety of non-formal skilling programmes through its Don Bosco partners: hospitality and BPO services, retail management, beautician and tailoring courses, plate making, solar appliance maintenance etc., while also supporting long-term training of students in formal Industrial Training institutions in various streams such as electrical works, two-wheeler mechanics, tailoring, carpentry, welding etc.

Currently, BREADS and its Don Bosco partners offer formal and non-formal skilling through seven centres in Karnataka and six centres in Kerala, enabling thousands of youth to access better futures.
