BOSCO, Bangalore, organized ‘Shale Kade Nanna Nade’ (SKNN) from 21st May to 26th May 2018 in support to the initiative taken by Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) and Department of Public Instruction (DPI). Four different teams from BOSCO namely Child Safety Network (CSN), Child Rights Education and Action Movement (CREAM), BOSCO Nilaya and BOSCO Nivas are into the campaign in different areas of Bangalore.
Inauguration of the week-long enrolment and re-enrolment awareness campaign was organized by Nivas, Nilaya, CREAM and Child Safety Net Programs of BOSCO in collaboration with Adjacent Railway Station Programme (ARSP), Foster Care, Railway CHILDLINE, BOSCO CHILDLINE, Bus Stand Teams, BOSCO Nilaya, BOSCO Nivas and BOSCO Sumanahalli.
The campaign was flagged off by taking a solemn pledge to identify and bring back drop outs from aread and communities into mainstream schools, as responsible child right club members from schools and communities. Armed with a banner on SKNN, placards, Flex boards displaying slogans on the importance of education, admitting children into schools, education of the girl child and eradicating child labor. Children marched through the various areas and communities along with the Government school teachers and HMs, Local Leaders, KSCPCR Members and BOSCO Staff. Awareness was given about the importance of education, admitting children into schools, education of girl child and eradication of child labour, and utilization of the facilities provided at the government schools.
As an outcome of the six-day long campaign several people from the general public have approached community mobilizers to enroll their kids into Government Schools. Nearly hundred dropouts and child labourers were identified from the areas of Shivajinagar, K R Market, Mysore Road and Sumanahalli. The out of school children who were identified, are being followed up for re-enrolment and re-integration. During the span of six days of the campaign, over three thousand people pledged their support for the cause of enrolling and re-enrolling the school drop outs.
