The project review meeting of KEEN (Karimadom Education and Empowerment Network) was held at Don Bosco Nivas, Trivandrum on 15th of March 2018. The objective was to evaluate and validate the progress of the project in Karimadom colony. The review meeting was headed by Fr. Joy Nedumparambil sdb, Director, BREADS along with Fr. Thomas P.D, Director, Don Bosco Veedu Society, Trivandrum and the staff of KEEN project. Fr. Thomas P. D briefly explained the activities that are conducted in the project location in last three months including the referendum meetings with women, children, youth and men folk of the colony as part of the KEEN project. Mr. Tony, Coordinator, KEEN project presented the statistics of the preliminary survey conducted in the colony. The survey result of the slum included the identification of children (0-18 years), details of their schooling, identifying the number of youth, women and men in the community and assessed the socio- economic conditions.
Fr. Joy insisted on developing a family care plan for each family in the slum and the importance of maintaining individual file for each family to understand the community better, to assess and record the progress which has to be completed within three months. To realize the purpose the colony will be divided into five sections, each section assigned to a staff to collect the intended data and information. Gradually the project will be expanded by linking up and collaborating with other NGOs and CSR groups. The meeting also explored the possibility of strengthening the existing Anganwadi (crèche) in the colony, making it more child friendly through beautiful wall paintings and by adding additional facilities.
