BOSCO Bangalore organised a clean-up drive under the CREAM project on 14 September 2019. The clean-up drive was kick-started from Bosco Nilaya, Police Road and proceeded to Kalasipalya bus station via Jolly Mohalla and Victoria hospital. The programme was led by Fr. Regi Jacob sdb- Director, Bosco Nilaya, staff and 25 children from the child rights clubs. The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Mr. Puttaramaiya- Assistant Sub-Inspector, Kalasipalya; Mr.Veeraiya- Health Inspector, BBMP; Mr. Ravindrakumar- Assistant Traffic Manager, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC); Mr. Narayan Rao- Traffic Inspector, BMTC; Mr. Devaraj- Head Constable, Cottonpet police station; and Mr. Nagaraj- Traffic Police, Kalasipalya.
Pournakarmikas and the pest control team of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) assisted the children in the clean-up drive. Prior to the drive, necessary permissions were obtained from the police, BMTC and BBMP officials. Mr. Waseem- the tuition teacher welcomed the gathering and Fr. Regi Jacob summarised the importance of cleanliness and the clean-up drive for the children. The children were out on the street in full swing- shouting slogans and holding placards. All the children were given masks and hand gloves while they were in action to clean their city roads. The collected waste was segregated and loaded in the BBMP vehicle for disposal. After cleaning each area, the BBMP pest control team sprayed medicines and ensured the area was clean and pest-free. The children also spread public awareness about the importance of systematic waste management, motivating people to stop their habits of littering. The efforts of children were well-accepted and appreciated by the public and the officials.
