India observes National Nutrition Week every year between 1 – 7 September to highlight the importance of nutrition for better health. In 2025, India embraces the theme, ‘Eat Right for a Better Life’ highlighting the critical role of balanced nutrition in promoting health and combating malnutrition across all age groups. This week is a vital reminder of the power of informed food choices to build a stronger, healthier society. This agenda is perfectly aligned with the goals of the mobile clinic programme of BREADS and its Don Bosco partners.
In the context of the National Nutrition Week, Don Bosco Davanagere conducted an awareness programme on 5 September 2025 for 30 members of Kortagere thanda (hamlet), encouraging them reflect on the importance of good nutrition in ensuring a healthy life.
Nurse Roopa raised awareness on proper dietary practices, food hygiene and lifestyle habits to prevent malnutrition, obesity and related health concerns. She explained the importance of a balanced diet, the risks of poor eating habits and shared practical steps such as portion control, consuming seasonal foods and maintaining physical activity alongside a nutritious diet. The interactive session engaged participants in discussions on their own food choices and helped them understand the role of home-cooked, clean and nutrient-rich meals in maintaining long-term health. The community also received simple, practical tips to incorporate into their daily routines, including avoiding excessive salt, sugar and processed foods.
By aligning with the national campaign, the awareness programme highlighted the need for collective responsibility among families, schools and communities in ensuring better nutritional outcomes. The active participation and positive response from the community reflected the relevance of the programme in today’s context.
Through this initiative, BREADS and Don Bosco Davanagere reaffirmed their commitment to promoting health and well-being in communities, encouraging people to “Eat Right for a Better Life.”
