On 16th and 17th of October 2017 Chitra Don Bosco, Chitradurga, organized the legal awareness training for the members of the Self Help Groups at Chitradurga under the women Empowerment Project (WEP). About 39 women from various SHGs attended the training. Ms.Asha, WEP, Coordinator, Chithradurga welcomed the gathering. Speaking on the occasion Fr. Julian, Director, Chitra Don Bosco, Chithradurga, stressed on the importance of knowing the law of the land, which will be a strong weapon to fight against the atrocities faced by women. Mr.Vishwa Sagar, the resource person from Damma Kendra Vimukthi Vidya Samste, Chitradurga trained the participants on prohibition of child marriage act, the dowry prohibition act and right to property. The participants were involved in deep debates and discussed the laws pertaining sexual harassment, rape and female foeticide. Mr.Siddappa Coordinator, Mahila Santhwana Kendra, enlightened the participants on various schemes available for women, how it can avail and how it caters to the victims of various atrocities. Mr.Manjunatha, Nodal Officer, Mahila Santhwana Kendra, Chitradurga, provided the information on women help line, childline and counselling facility available for victims. Ms.Asha, Coordinator, WEP, Chitradurga spoke about the Mahila Chikitsa Ghataka which is an initiative of the Department of the Women and Child Welfare Development; it is set up in district Government hospital aiming at helping the women who undergo physical, mental and sexual trauma. The Mahila Chikitsa Ghataka specially helps the women victims to come out of their difficult moments of life.
