Jyothi Nagara Learning Centre gets a New Look

In their continued commitment to ensure education and holistic development for underprivileged children in some of the low-income areas in Bangalore, the Social Service Guild (SSG) of Kristu Jyothi College and BREADS, inaugurated the renovated Learning and Activity Centre at Jyothi Nagara on August 17, 2025. As part of this initiative, other SSG learning centres in Anandapura, Halehalli and Priyankanagar are also being renovated.

For over 27 years, the Jyothi Nagara SSG Centre has been a hub for local children, offering assisted study sessions, games, life skills, personality development, and recreational activities. Occasional CSR contributions have further enriched the programme. The role, enduring contribution and legacy of the Jyothi Nagara centre in the local community can be observed by the fact that the teacher has been faithfully serving in the centre since its inception, and another staff member is herself an alumna of the centre.

The meaningful celebration among the gathering of the children, their parents and other stakeholders highlighted the community ownership of the centre. Fr. Sunil Jose, Secretary of SSG, expressed gratitude to benefactors and well-wishers for their steadfast support. Special appreciation was extended to Mr. Anand from Shishu Mandir, whose organisation contributed significantly to the centre’s renovation. The Kristu Jyothi College (KJC) community, teachers, brothers and residents who have continuously supported the mission were represented by Fr. Bosco Ponthokkan, Rector of KJC, who was chief guest on the occasion. The evening concluded with light refreshments, with special attention given to the children, who were encouraged to make full use of the centre’s facilities.

The renovation of the Jyothi Nagara SSG Centre reaffirms our joint commitment to creating safe learning spaces that nurture children’s potential, strengthens communities and continues the legacy of education, compassion, and empowerment.
