International Child Rights Day Celebrated in Kalaburagi

Don Bosco PYaR with the support of BREADS Bangalore, joined the District Administration to observe International Child Rights Day on 20 November 2025 at St Mary’s Church Hall in Kalaburagi. Around 250 children from the Don Bosco supplementary education centres across ten villages attended the event along with their parents, teachers and staff.

A prayer dance by the children from Don Bosco Babalad school set a warm and positive tone. Representatives from key government departments were present to engage with the children and communities. Mr Srinivas Navale, Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, emphasised the importance of safeguarding children’s rights and ensuring that all stakeholders remain committed to their protection. Several officials, including Mr Sharanappa Hallimani (District Labour Officer) and Mr Vijay Kumar Jamakadi (Block Education Officer) highlighted the urgent need to prevent child marriage and encouraged the community to make use of the 1098 child helpline.

Cultural performances by the children, including a short drama on child marriage and dances on child rights, added a meaningful and expressive dimension to the event. The activities helped the children voice their concerns and hopes in a way that resonated deeply with the audience. The celebration successfully strengthened the community’s understanding of child rights, child protection mechanisms and the responsibilities of parents and institutions.
