On 20 November 2023, Don Bosco PYaR (Programme for the Young at Risk), Kalaburagi, organised a meaningful celebration for 300 children on the occasion of International Day of the Rights of the Child. The event unfolded under the project “Empowering Children through Education and Child Rights Promotion,” a collaborative effort with Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives (APPI) and Bangalore Rural Educational and Development Society (BREADS) at Kannada Bhavan in Kalaburagi.
Smt. Manjula P., District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Kalaburagi, inaugurated the event, and in her address, commended Don Bosco PYaR for its dedicated efforts in promoting education and child rights, especially in the rural areas of Kalaburagi.
The programme also featured distinguished chief guests, including Sri Sakreppa Gowda C. Biradar, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, (DDPI), Sri Srihari Deshpande, District Labour Officer, Sri Vijayakumar Patil Tegalatippi, President, District Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Sri Mahadev Moolage, Regional Coordinator of APPI, Fr. Tomy Chirakal, Rector, Don Bosco PYaR, and Fr. Kuriakose, Director, Don Bosco PYaR.
Following the inaugural ceremony, children from 20 villages actively participated in a dance competition, displaying a commendable spirit of healthy competition. The performances, including dances and songs, were connected to the theme of child rights and also paid tribute to Kannada Rajyotsava.
This event on International Child Rights Day served as a platform to raise awareness about the rights of children and fostered cultural expressions. The collaborative efforts of Don Bosco PYaR, APPI, BREADS, and the local community reflect a shared commitment to the well-being and rights of children.
