On August 4, 2021, the WE-AUTO project was inaugurated, and the first phase distribution of the electric autos to 5 women was held at FCDP, Kollam. The official inauguration was done in the presence of the Smt Prasanna Earnest (Hon. Mayor of Kollam), Mr. AK Dilu (Regional Transport Officer, Kollam), and Rev. Vincent Machado (the Vicar General of the Diocese of Kollam). They pointed out the importance of distributing these vehicles by FCDP, which gives a new dimension to women’s empowerment by providing sustainable means of income to the fisherwomen. They also highlighted how the electric autos contributed to a greener and healthier environment. The Vicar General, in addition, appreciated the cultural transformation that has been brought in the community through these electric rickshaws.
The keys of the e-autos were handed over to the women by the dignitaries in assistance with Fr Stephen Mukkatil (Parish Priest & Rector) and Dr Sindha Mendez (Chairperson of FCDP). Also present at the function were Fr. Joby Sebastian (Director FCDP), Mr. Tomy Nepolean (Counsellor Pallithottam), Mr. Vinod (Proprietor Sreekala driving school), and Mr. Shibu (Managing Partner, Asian motors). The e-autos were flagged off by Mr. A. K Dilu (RTO, Kollam)!
