This year’s International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, carries the powerful theme: “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” It shines a spotlight on building an inclusive future, particularly focusing on the younger generation.

India is making strides in empowering women in areas of education, healthcare, economic independence, and safety; with the hope that women will not only participate in but lead the country’s socioeconomic progress. BREADS’ initiatives for safeguarding the rights and education of girls(CSN & CLEP), Mobile Healthcare,WELivE (livelihood promotion for women) and DREAM & MINDS (mental health promotion) in Karnataka and Kerala contributed to the building of this inclusive future for women and girls.

In Hosapete, Mysuru, Chitradurga and Bangalore, awareness campaigns were conducted for women on assorted topics such as gender equality, rights, child marriage, child labour and POCSO. In Bidar, Davanagere and Kalaburagi, medical camps reached out to hundreds of women, educating them on topics such as  menstrual hygiene and PCOD,  empowering them to manage their health and well-being. Similarly in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, women from low-income areas were also made aware about issues impacting their health.

Reaching out to more than 2500 women altogether, this evolving narrative of empowerment seeks to pave the way for a more equitable and inclusive India, where the strength, potential, and voice of every woman and girl are heard and celebrated.
